FAQ For Parade Day

  1. When is the Parade? – Sunday, March 16th, 2014 1:30 p.m.
  2. Where does the Parade start? – Edgewood Avenue at Sherman Avenue.
  3. What is the Parade Route? – This year, our parade begins on Edgewood Avenue at Sherman Avenue.  It continues down Edgewood to Howe Avenue, then turns on to Chapel Street continues to Church Street, to Grove Street, and ends on Orange Street.
  4. How long is the Parade? – approximately 3 hours and 1.8 miles
  5. What streets are closed? – The above-names parade route, as well as the Muster area (one block either side of Edgewood Avenue between Sherman Avenue and Norton Street, and Edgewood back to E.T. Grasso Blvd.) will be closed to non-parade traffic prior to and during the parade.
  6. What time do the streets close? – Most are closed at 11:00 a.m. Church Street from Chapel to Grove St. is generally closed by 6:00 a.m.
  7. What time do the streets re-open? – Generally right after the parade passes. Each street becomes open
  8. Where is the best place to see the parade?–Anywhere along the Parade route. New Haven offers many great locations.
  9. How much does it cost? – It’s FREE to come see the largest spectator event in CT  =)
  10. What if I can’t make it? – If you can’t be on the streets of New Haven, you can also watch live on WCCT (Fox News CT) with a live broadcast starting at 2 p.m.
  11. Who puts the Parade together? – A group called the Associated Irish Societies d.b.a. New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. They consist of local men and women who volunteer their time and talents for this tradition.

Vendor Permits

 

If you are planning to sell food or merchandise at the Parade you MUST obtain a permit from the
City of New Haven Building Department

All vendors are required by law to obtain a license and display this license clearly on parade day. All vendors in violation of this law will be ejected from the parade.

Coming into New Haven

Public Transportation – Trains
– From the Shoreline (Branford, Madison, Old Saybrook): Ride ShorelineEast westbound to State Street Station or Union Station.  More information and schedules are available at the Shoreline East website.
– From the West (Milford, Bridgeport, Fairfield, NYC): Ride MetroNorth eastbound to Union Station or State Street Station.  More information and schedules are available at the MTA website.

Public Transportation – Busses – CT Transit alters the routes for bus pickup on Parade Day and provides advance notice in the bus pickup locations.  More information in available at the CTTransit website.

Shuttle from Hamden – Dunn’s Pub located at 2345 Whitney avenue in Hamden is running a shuttle bus to the New Haven St. Patricks Day parade. The shuttle costs $15 per person and includes a breakfast buffet. Children under 10 are free. The shuttle will run from 11am – 2pm & 3pm to 6pm, starting at the parking lot behind Dunn’s pub and arriving at the corner of Orange & Grove, which is 2 blocks from the parade route. The New Haven Parking Authority proudly serves the people of New Haven and its visitors with over 8,000 economical public parking spaces at the Air Rights, Crown Street, Temple Street, Temple Medical, Granite Square, and Union Station Garages.  Parking is also available in selected Yale lots; the Crown and Temple Street Garages will be open that day with bathroom facilities available.  For more parking information, visit our Parking Page.
